Art is Dead: The Rebirth of Creativity
Our theme hones in on a new movement of art; the anti-art rebellion. This movement is fueled by the integration of AI into our everyday lives. Now more than ever, true creativity and originality are lacking. Artists are pushed aside by the new art forms AI can create in just seconds. AI is now comparable to when the camera was first released but with a darker twist.
“When the camera was first invented, it looked like a machine that automated the creation of art. No skill was required. Many artists feared and disparaged it. They predicted that it was going to destroy high-quality art and put the best artists out of work.” (Hertzmann, 2022).

The Process
-
Our zeitgeist reflects a societal struggle between embracing AI and fearing its potential to diminish human creativity. After analyzing current societal trends, specifically the increasing prevalence of AI, and its implications on human expressionism, we found our zeitgeist.
-
During our research and trend analysis, we drew inspiration from Dadaism, Vivienne Westwood's punk aesthetic, and the Writer’s Strike. We researched our target market and analyzed current fashion trends through industry reports, runway shows, and emerging styles like avant-garde fashion. Through our research, key themes such as "art," "rebirth," "rejection," and "technology" emerged.
-
Our theme was inspired by the integration of AI into human life and its parallels with historical events like the invention of the camera. Drawing from Marcel Duchamp's “anti-art” movement in the 1910s, we predicted a movement embracing imperfections and rejecting conventional norms. This theme for our forecast is reflected in asymmetrical silhouettes, deconstructed aesthetics, and abstract designs.
-
In creating our collection, we were inspired by two contrasting themes: uncertainty created by artificial intelligence and renewed emphasis on human creativity. Our color palette reflects the tension between these two themes, while our textile selection blends natural and synthetic fibers to symbolize the shift from rejecting artificial perfection to embracing creative revival. Our curation process for the collection drew inspiration from the avant-garde styles of ADFAM and Vivienne Westwood. Our streetwear looks feature deconstructed fashion, exposed seams, and unconventional cuts.
